Why is this year's pride only a one-day event?
This year is a year of rest and regeneration, which we as a collective have needed for a long time. This is mainly due to our material and mental capacities - there's not many of us in the collective, we study and live in different cities, the activist network in Ostrava is small...
We needed to focus on ourselves and our inner processes, reflect on the journey that Ostravský PRAJD has taken in the five years of its existence, what it has brought, but also what it has cost us. We are figuring out what to do next and how to do it in a way that is sustainable and is meaningful and joyful.
The degree of political pressure on our collective in the recent months has also contributed to our frustration. We would hate for most of our activities to be reactionary. Rather, we want to direct our energy towards strengthening relationships and community cohesion.
This year, therefore, we have agreed that the most important thing for us at the moment is to organize the parade and other activities on the parade day in Komenského sady with you and friendly collectives, followed by an afterparty.
So the main thing at the moment is that we will meet at the parade on July 13 in Komenského sady and together we will show Ostrava that we are here despite all obstacles and systemic pressure!
